Older Kids

If your child is over 8 years of age, or is at least 4'9" tall, your child can use the adult seat belts provided with your car. To assure that the adult seat belts can do their job to best protect your children in the event of a crash, care should be taken to make sure your children are wearing their seat belts correctly.
The lap belt must be positioned snug and low over the upper thighs of your child, not over the abdomen or stomach. The shoulder belt should be positioned snug across the chest.

 |
If your car is equipped with an adjustable anchorage for the shoulder belt, be sure to adjust the anchorage up or down in order to position the shoulder belt across your child's shoulder, not the neck.
|
Never allow your child to position the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back. In the event of a crash, seat belts worn like this will not be able to do their job and can even cause injury to your child!
The leading cause of death among children, including children between the ages of 8 and 12, is automobile accidents. Paying attention to the instructions provided above and following these simple rules can make all the difference!
| 1: | Always buckle up, every trip, every time! |
| 2: | Kids 12 and under in the back seat. That is the safest place for your child! |
| 3: | Always use the correct child safety seat for your child's age, height and weight! |
| 4: | Always install and use the child safety seat correctly by following the manufacturers instructions provided with the seat! |
| 5: | Never place a rear facing child safety seat in the front passenger seat of vehicle where an airbag is present! |
| 6: | Always set a good example for your children by wearing your own seat belt! |
Remember, there are no second chances in automobile crashes. Your children rely on YOU to help keep them safe.
